Nico Nico Notes: Aug. 4, 2010 - Talking about body types! Intermediate/Advanced

Today we reviewed the last class. Then we did the following.

9. Nice way to say a women is fat?

The following words also mean having a large top and bottom, but sometimes people use them to say someone is "fat" in a nice way: voluptuous / curvy / curvaceous /
9. She is healthy.=This is a euphemism for "fat".

She is plus-sized/Rubenesque/full-figured. (If someone is described this way it probably means they are fat.)

10. どっちかというと〜のほうです。

10. She/He is on the ~ side.
If you use this expression you should fill in the ~ with an adjective. For example,
She is on the heavy side., He is a little on the tall side.
This sentence is usually only used for negative adjectives, but if it used with a positive adjective (like "tall") it meas someone is TOO tall.

11. Do you have any trouble falling asleep? (Is not equal to: Do you have any trouble sleeping.)

12. My computer is broken. What should I do?
Take into the shop.
It's in the shop!
You should by a new one.
Throw it away.
You should (get / have) it (fixed / repaired).
You should get/have that looked at.
