In Japan courts favor the mothers.

The documents obtained Wednesday outline Christopher Savoie’s attempts
to restrict his ex-wife’s ability to travel with their 8-year-old son and
6-year-old daughter, and her unhappiness with living in this Nashville suburb.

Savoie, 38, was arrested Monday as he tried to enter the U.S. Consulate
in Fukuoka with his children, the latest twist in a case that underscores
long-standing disputes over Japan’s traditional favoritism toward mothers
in custody battles. Police said he had grabbed the kids as they walked
with their mother to their new school in the southern Japanese city.
