A Useful Lesson
Today we're going to
learn different uses
for easy words:
The first word is

run. Run has three
very useful meanings
a) to run=走る
X I ran to home.
I ran home.
b) to run a business
事業を経営する
He runs a coffee shop.
c) to run for (office)=
公職選挙に立候補する
Obama ran for President.
Obama ran against
McCain for President.
Ozawa is going to ~
against Kan.
Ozawa is going to
run against Kan
for Prime Minister.


管首相が勝て欲しい。
I want Prime Minister
Kan to win.
SB wants SB to VERB.

管首相が勝つといい。
I hope Kan wins.

小沢氏は勝てないと思う。
I don't think Ozawa can win.

小沢氏は立候補
しなければ良かった。
I wish he hadn't decided to run.
I wish he wouldn't run.
He shouldn’t have run.


an "office" has 2 meanings.
a) 事務所 
But remember that
"work" is more
popular than "office"
b) · 在職する
• hold an office
• in office
• stay in office
Obama holds the office
of the Presidency.
Obama is in office.
Obama wants to stay in office.
